My running journey and the story behind IUsedtoRun
Welcome to IUsedtoRun, where I share my lifelong passion for running and the adventures it has brought. Discover the inspirations, challenges, and joy that have shaped my journey, and what you can expect from this blog.

The beginning: a lifelong passion
It seems I've always run. I began by trying to keep up with older brothers, then by trying to avoid them. Running was a fitness endeavor to help with other athletic pursuits. However, in my 40s, I began to set goals. First I ran 5Ks and a 10 miler with friends. Naturally, a half marathon was tackled and then a marathon, which I attempted to improve over the following decade.

From marathons to IronMan
I eventually turned my attention to triathlons, becoming an IronMan in 2012. After retirement, my abilities have declined, partially due to injury, but simply, the impact of the calendar. Until I can seriously pursue some future racing, I am documenting the past.

Adventures and friendships on the run
It's been fun. I've run marathons in a dozen states and tackled differing climates and terrains. I've met some really good friends along the way, along with "one time race friends." The journey has been an important part of my life, filled with memorable experiences.
I will upload race reports written soon after an event, and often with photos. As I look back over 22 marathons, a dozen ultras, and a dozen triathlons, you'll find detailed accounts of my experiences, challenges, and triumphs. Join me in reliving these incredible moments.
